New Workplace Relations Structure
October 2015
Today, 1 October marks a major change in the State’s workplace relations/employment rights and industrial relations structures. From today the Workplace Relations Commission will take over the functions formerly carried out by the Labour Relations Commission, including Rights Commissioner Service, the Equality Tribunal, the Employment Appeals Tribunal and the National Employment Rights Authority. All matters will now be heard by an Adjudication Officer in the first instance with the Labour Court acting as the appellate body to determine, among other matters, appeals against decisions of the Adjudication Officers. This new system now provides a single point of entry for all employment and equality related information requests, and employment and equality rights complaints.
